Well Child Visit
What Is a Well Child Visit?
A well child visit is an exam scheduled at regular intervals to examine a child and evaluate his or her growth and development. During this appointment, following the AAP guidelines for regular wellness checkups, Dr. Nahas performs a full examination and collects information about the child’s medical history. She will analyze the child’s growth rate, developmental milestones, eating habits, and physical condition. If any vaccinations are necessary, Dr. Nahas may prescribe and administer them at this appointment. Dr. Nahas will also provide the parent with relevant information about what to expect as the child continues to grow so that he or she can watch for any problems.
What Are the Benefits of the Well Child Visit?
Scheduling regular well child visits provides many benefits for parents and children. For example, during a well child visit, the doctor will give the parent valuable information about the milestones the child should reach in the future. The doctor will also be able to let the parent know how the child’s weight, height, and other characteristics compare to averages among all children of the same age. If the parent has any concerns about the child’s development, the doctor can address these concerns during the well child appointment, and make the appropriate referrals. Finally, attending well child appointments on a regular basis ensures that any health problems affecting the child will be identified as early as possible.

How Often Are Well Child Visits Necessary?
Early in a child’s life, well child visits should be more frequent. Dr. Nahas should examine infants at 1 week, 1month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, and 18 months. From the age of 2 to 3, well child visits should take place every 6 months. After the child reaches the age of 3, parents should schedule well child visits annually until the child reaches the age of 21.
